ARLINGTON, Texas — A 5-year-old child has passed away after suffering multiple stab wounds at an Arlington apartment complex, while another child was also hurt in the incident, according to Arlington police. A man was arrested after a police pursuit and later allegedly told officers he had killed someone at the apartment.
The occurrence began shortly before midnight when an Arlington police officer was reportedly sitting inside a patrol SUV near a QuikTrip. Police reported a man carrying a knife approached the vehicle and commenced striking it before leaving the area in a vehicle.
Officers pursued the man, and the chase ended on Interstate 30 near North Carrier Parkway, based on to law enforcement. Police said officers took the suspect into custody following a physical confrontation, during which the suspect was subdued with a Taser.
After his arrest, police noted the suspect allegedly told officers that he had killed someone at an apartment complex. Investigators then responded to the Woodwind Apartments in the 1600 block of South Cooper Street to check the information offered by the suspect.
Officers entered an apartment and discovered the 5-year-old child suffering from multiple stab wounds, agencies said. The child was transported to a hospital but later died from the injuries. Police also confirmed that another child was hurt during the occurrence, though representatives have not released the identities or conditions of the children.
Police said the suspect was medically cleared after the confrontation with officers before being transported to the Arlington jail. Authorities have not released additional details about the suspect’s identity, relationship to the children, or what may have led to the stabbing.
