Synquavia Keyona Staples Obituary, ROANOKE, Ala. — Synquavia Keyona Staples, an upperclassman from Roanoke and a student in the nursing program at Jacksonville State University, has passed away, leaving her family, friends, classmates, faculty, and members of the university local area mourning her loss.

Known affectionately by friends as “KeKe,” Staples was pursuing a career in nursing and was recognized for her commitment to the profession. During the fall semester, she received her white coat at the College of Health Professions and Wellness’ White Coat Ceremony, marking an notable step in her nursing education journey.

Dr. Betsy Gulledge, Chief Nursing Administrator and Associate Dean of the College of Health Professions and Wellness, remembered Staples as a kind, compassionate, and trustworthy student who made a meaningful impact on those who taught her.

Based on to Dr. Gulledge, Staples’ clinical instructors often highlighted her willingness to support classmates and her eagerness to learn, develop new skills, and take on new experiences. Her dedication to nursing and her desire to care for others were qualities that stood out throughout her education and clinical training.

Staples was also remembered by her resident assistant and friend, Julian Hooks, who described her as a kind and beautiful soul who was committed to becoming an exceptional nurse. Hooks shared that Staples brought kindness into every room and was known for the smile she shared with those around her.

The Jacksonville State University neighborhood has extended condolences to Staples’ relatives, friends, classmates, faculty, and everyone who knew and cared for her during this difficult time. Counseling Services has been made available to students, faculty, and staff people seeking support following her passing.

Visitation for Staples will be held Friday, October 2, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Silmon-Seroyer Funeral Home Chapel in LaFayette. Funeral services will take place Saturday, October 3, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Roanoke, followed by burial at Skyview Memorial Gardens in Five Points.

As family, friends, and the Jax State community remember Synquavia “KeKe” Staples, she will be honored for her compassion, dedication to nursing, and the positive impression she left on those who had the opportunity to know her. Condolences are extended to all who are grieving her passing.
