Veronica Tussey-Taylor Obituary, BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — Veronica Tussey-Taylor, a 59-year-old Brazos County woman, has lost her life after she was found with a fatal gunshot wound at a residence in northern Brazos County on Wednesday night.
The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office stated deputies were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. to a home in the 6400 block of Trace Bend following a welfare concern. Upon arrival, deputies identified Tussey-Taylor deceased inside the residence.
Officials began an investigation into her passing and determined that her vehicle was missing from the home. Investigators developed information about a possible suspect and used automated license plate reader technology, including Flock cameras, to track the vehicle from Brazos County into the Houston area.
Information gathered during the probe indicated that the vehicle may have been located at a property in northern Harris County. Brazos County deputies traveled to the area to assist in locating the vehicle, with a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter later identifying it on the property.
Deputies conducted surveillance nearby as Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the location. Before officers entered the property, the suspect lost his life by suicide using a firearm, according to agencies. The suspect was later affirmed dead and identified as John Goodwin, 54, of College Station.
Investigators reported Tussey-Taylor and Goodwin knew each other. The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Tussey-Taylor’s death with assistance from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement agencies.
The sheriff’s office expressed condolences to Tussey-Taylor’s loved ones and those affected by the tragedy. As the investigation continues, Veronica Tussey-Taylor’s memory remains honored by those impacted by her loss, while authorities work to complete their review of the events surrounding her death.
