Christy Grubbs Obituary: Springhill, Louisiana – Park Ranger Killed in Murder-Suicide at Home

Christy Grubbs Obituary, SPRINGHILL, La. — Christy Grubbs, 42, a park ranger at Cypress Black Bayou Recreation and Water Conservation Area, was fatally shot at a residence in Springhill on Friday, October 2, in a murder-suicide involving her fiancé, Joseph Cox, 46.

Based on to Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd, police were called to a home in the 900 block of North Arkansas Street shortly after 6 a.m. after Grubbs and Cox were found dead inside the residence. Investigators determined that Cox fatally shot Grubbs before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Grubbs’ adult son, who also worked as a park ranger alongside his mother, discovered the couple after arriving at the residence to pick her up for work. The son lived in a cottage behind the home, per to information released by police.

Chief Lynd reported investigators found a firearm near the bodies and determined that two rounds had been fired. Police have not indicated that anyone else was involved, and the circumstances released by authorities indicate that the incident was contained to the residence.

Investigators were told that Grubbs and Cox had been arguing recently, although her son said the disagreements did not appear serious enough to suggest that an incident of this nature was imminent. Police have continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Grubbs was remembered as a dedicated park ranger and a valued member of her local area. Her work at Cypress Black Bayou Recreation and Water Conservation Area reflected her connection to the outdoors, and she worked alongside her son in service to the park.
